Abdominoplasty is an invasive, surgical procedure that aims to repair all problems caused by ageing, frequent and high weight variation, pregnancy, local accumulation of fat around the waist and tummy and also by the non-normal placement of the abdominal muscles.

There are various abnominoplasty methods; however, all of them are invasive. A stay at the clinic is required and the rehabilitation process lasts more than 10 days. Naturally, that depends on the size of the problem that has to be repaired, that is whether abdominoplasty is partial or total or if it will be combined with another method.

The main abdominoplasty methods are:
  • Total abdominoplasty
This method is performed by making an incision on the pubic area, so that it can be covered by the underwear. Abdominal muscles are placed by the surgeon in their normal place while excess of skin and fat tissue is removed. If necessary, a second small incision is done on the interior of the navel, so that it can be also shifted to its normal place.
  • Partial abdominoplasty (or mini Abdominoplasty)
At this method the incision on the pubic area is smaller and usually a second incision on the navel is not required. It regards mostly problems of the lower area of the belly.
  • Extended abdominoplasty
Extended abdominoplasty regards full reconstruction of the tummy area as well as the upper area of the thighs.
  • High lateral tension abdominoplasty
It is an advanced abdominoplasty method that as procedure lasts more than the classic total abdominoplasty and also gives better results. The difference to total abdominoplasty is that during the shift of the abdominal muscles not only vertical but horizontal pressure is applied as well, resulting to a further decrease of the waste perimeter.
  • Circumferential abdominoplasty
During this method a wider reconstruction of the tummy area and the area of the thighs is carried out. It is applied mostly to overweight people.
  • Combination of abdominoplasty with other procedures of plastic surgery
The maximum effect is achieved if there is a combination between methods of plastic surgery. Abdominoplasty can be combined with liposuction or liposculpture. Certainly, everything depends on the condition of the patient.
